First day of the Positive Polly Challenge.
I have to say that I have had an excellent day today. I woke up not feeling so sore as I usually do, my wounds were not sticking to my clothes or bedding, which usually causes them to rip open. For the past week I've had to have sponge baths in order to wash myself each morning as the wounds and sores have been very sensitive to the shower. Since there were no wounds stuck to my clothes or to the bedding, I figured I would take a chance at having a shower. There were some parts of my body that did sting but I enjoyed the simple luxury of having a shower as oppose to a wet rag washing my skin. It is interesting how we take the small things for granted until they are taken away from us.
As part of the Positive Polly Challenge I have been watching inspirational videos on youtube, such as Tedtalks and Tony Robbins. I think that being inspired each day as soon as you wake up in the morning is a great way to start your day. Even if it is something just to make you laugh, and I am sure youtube can provide plenty of videos to make you laugh.
There has been one Tedtalks video that has stood out for me. The video is called "The Happiness Advantage," by Shawn Achor. I recommend everyone to watch it. Shawn proposes to create lasting positive change there are 5 things you must to do each day. By doing these things in 21 days you can actually rewire your brain to see and think in a more positive perspective.
1) 3 new gratitudes a day. Be thankful for three new things a day. Your brain will start to automatically see things that you need to be thankful for rather than what is wrong or negative in your life.
2) Journaling: by journaling a positive experience that has happened to you the last 24 hrs helps your brain to relive the moment.
3) Exercise: exercise teaches your brain that your behavior matters.
4) Meditation: we are constantly in a state of multitasking. Between work, phone, school, internet, driving, etc. Our brain is constantly distracted. It is important to give yourself 5-10 minutes a day of gentle focus on one thing: your well-being.
5) Random Acts of Kindness: When we are kind to other people, in turn it makes ourselves feel good. Start by sending an email of praise and love to one person a day in your support group just to let them know how much you appreciate them.
Here are my 3 gratitudes for today.
- I am grateful for showering. To have clean running water washing down your body is a simple pleasure that I was truly grateful for today.
- I am grateful for thunderstorms. In my culture we call them thunder-beings. The sounds of the thunder crashing and the lightning flashing, it brings a sense of peace and calm to me.
- I am grateful for waking up comfortably, and not waking up in pain.
I am excited for tomorrow. To wake up and start a new day, a new journey.
